I can't believe it's already June! We are making progress that I'm excited to share with you!
Now that all the modular assets are finished, I have been unwrapping them and adding a first pass texture to get a feel for everything. So far all the base models are completed with a first pass brick/panel/wood texture applied.
I threw together a test scene (video above) to get a feel for the environment and test out our newest mechanic. A Music Mechanic! (more about this in a minute)
As you can see, not everything is textured, however I am liking the way all the house assets are looking together.
The foliage is still being worked out. The trees are a test I did a few months ago with a method that is a bit high poly, the bushes are a shader that I was trying out. I don't feel like either are really quite how I want them to look but I am enjoying using them as placeholders for the moment.
I am going to continue to unwrap the modular assets and map them to the first pass textures. I also plan to work with this test scene to work on some lighting and camera effects. I have also begun working on some placeholder animations with our new first pass character, so stay tuned for updates on that.
The character controller and camera controls have been implemented and Nabil has created our main mechanic. The Music Mechanic.
The Music Mechanic manages the music in the game and links all the songs to tags. For example, songs that are upbeat are tagged as "upbeat" and are then linked to a visual effect that displays the environment in a brighter, more vibrant way. Songs tagged as "Downbeat" display the environment in a less saturated way.
This mechanic is really exciting to have in game and I plan to create some great effects with it.
We are now moving on to creating our in-game task system and NPC interaction.
Eliza, our Sound Designer/Composer has begun working on the first track, which is really exciting! We are starting out with an upbeat track to get the vibes going. Stay tuned for more updates on this!
